3D Modelling - 26

<< Back to 3D Modelling - 25

NOTE:

These 3D-Modelling pages are in reverse-chrono-logical order, so our most recent render offerings appear at the top of the "Products & Services" menu.

Go to "3D Modelling - 1" (created in 2015 or earlier) for a general overview of these pages.

People ask about the computers being used for these 3D renders: See page 3D Modelling - 24, on this site.

FURTHER NOTE:

Support for the CMS (Content Management System) which has been used to create these web pages for the past decade is being discontinued at the end of 2022. The pages will still be visible until the end of 2023, but it won't be possible to add any new content after December 2022.

Hiding Schrödinger's Cat (December 2022) :

Hiding Schrodinger's Cat

This isn't a render. It was created using Adobe InDesign.

For a 60sec video about Schrödinger's Cat, look here (courtesy of The Open University):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1tn56vWU_g

As for the triangles, well the two figures above are rearrangements of each other, with the corresponding triangles and polyominoes having the same areas. Nevertheless, the bottom figure has an area one unit larger than the top figure (as indicated by the grid square containing the dot).

If the areas are the same and the number of squares, vertically and horizontally are the same, then how on earth can we end up with a square left over?!

We urge you to study the above for a while.
And if you can't figure it out, scroll to the bottom of this page for the answer!

It seemed like a perfect place to hide Schrödinger's infamous Quantum-Mechanical Cat !

Mirrored Muscle-Woman #1 (December 2022) :

Mirrored Muscle-Woman - No Makeup

Oh No!  She forgot to put her Makeup on!

Even on a FAST machine, this render took forever... 1 day 15hrs 35mins, to be exact (1,802 Ray-Traced Iterations) - And even then it only achieved 63% Convergeance!

There were two reasons for this:  All of the SubDivisions were set to their maximums. Plus, there were a LOT of "Depth of Field" calculations to do, given the primary focus was on the eyes and front areas of the body, which were "behind" the mirror, of course... And the mirror happens to be sitting in the middle of a very long room, so DoF calculations have to be done in BOTH directions!

Mirrored Muscle-Woman #2 (December 2022) :

Mirrored Muscle-Woman - WITH Makeup

Makeup makes ALL the difference!

Same as above, but we killed the render after a mere 1 day 1hr 2mins (and 1,151Iterations), but this time it was only 48% Converged.

'Tis the Season (December 2022) :

... to be Striking!

Tis the Season

A 3hrs 15mins render... 1,828 Ray-Traced Iterations.

To put the above Xmas Card in context:

There is SOME form of industrial action planned for EVERY day in December 2022, plus through January:

Rail workers (Network Rail & 14 other Operators
          including Eurostar)
Nurses & other Health Workers in 52 hospital trusts
Border Force (PCS workers at airports including
          Gatwick and Heathrow)
      National Highways (Roadworks)
      Heathrow Baggage Handlers
      Buses
      Royal Mail
Ambulance Workers & other NHS staff
      Teachers
      Security Guards handling cash
      Driving Examiners
      Rural Payments Officers

Firey Woman with Tree (December 2022) :

Firey Woman with Tree

A very quick render (on a fast machine) of 1,305 ray-traced iterations in 15 mins..

A Blizzard of Santas (December 2022) :

A Blizzard of Santas

Despite rendering on a fast machine, this was only 21% converged (958 ray-traced iterations) after15 hours and 4 mins, due to all of the Sub-Divisions being set to 5. (Too high.)

This WAS intended to form the basis of this year's Xmas Card, but we wanted to include reindeer... and ran out of time!   NEXT year, perhaps?!  Ho, ho, ho!

Happy New Year ! (December 2022) :

Happy New 2023

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The Triangle Dissection Paradox:

The source of this apparent paradox is that the "hypotenuse" of the overall "triangle" is not a straight line, but consists of two broken segments. As a result, the "hypotenuse" of the top figure is slightly bent in, whereas the "hypotenuse" of the bottom figure is slightly bent out. The difference in the areas of these figures is then exactly the "extra" one unit. Explicitly, the area of triangular "hole" (0, 0), (8, 3), (13, 5) in the top figure is 1/2, as is the area of triangular "excess" (0, 0), (5, 2), (13, 5) in the bottom figure, for a total of one unit difference.

OK, so it's not really a paradox !
But we're big fans of Illusions, too !
