<< Back to 3D Modelling - 20
Back Alley - France (June 2021) :
Result of a 5hr 31min render... 95% converged.
Sumo Baby (June 2021) :
THIS render took 9hrs 55mins... Again 95% converged.
Downed Pilot (June 2021) :
The original hi-rez version of this 3D render took 22hrs 40 mins to reach 95% Iray rendering-engine convergence!
Hippy Days (June 2021) :
Those were the days!
(A 15hr 14min 3D render!)
Handy Space Station (June 2021) :
A mere 1hr 13mins 3D render.
In fact, without the hand, the original render only took 6 minutes because the ISS is actually a very basic 3D model consisting mainly of textured cylinders.
"Yum - You Look Good Enough to Eat!" (June 2021) :
“Praise Be: Dinner is Served!”
Prêt à manger.
This was a particularly intense render which timed-out after the specified 90,000 seconds (25hrs), still only 75% converged !
For that reason a second render wasn't done (to correct little things like the direction "Bark-man" is pointing, moving his right arm to eliminate the shadow on his face... or altering the spot-light that is directed at him, etc.).
Picky little things, but this work wasn't commissioned and Life is simply too short sometimes !!!
"Brain Food" (June 2021) :
This render needed to be killed after 22 hrs 10 mins due to the approach of an intense thunderstom which threatened to take down the power! It was 91.97% complete (with a convergence target of 95%), so not a major problem. It's doubtful whether the extra couple of hours of rendering would have made any difference to the naked eye. (And the power didn't go down!)
This is a re-working of an old Sapiosexual image:
Sapiosexual (n.) one who is attracted to or aroused by intelligence in others.
It is also said that the most important sexual organ is one's brain.
The Thatcher Effect (July 2021) :
Apart from the fact that this face is upside-down, do you see anything else... "unusual"?
These few lines are intended to STOP you from scrolling down the page too quickly before studying the above in detail. Yeah, it's a game, if you will !
Are you studying it?
The original high-resolution 3D render of the face and hair took 17.5hrs to converge to 95% completeness using nVIDIA's Iray engine.
Post-work was done in Photoshop.
-----------
The Thatcher Effect:
When a face is upside down, it is difficult to decipher it. Our brain tries to rely on the separate parts of the face (eyes, nose, mouth) rather than looking at it
as-a-whole.
In THIS case, even though the face is upside down, our brains accept that the eyes look like real eyes and the mouth looks like a real mouth, so we don't notice anything is “amiss” until the image is rotated and the truth is revealed ...
But even when we DO know, our brains STILL have difficulty processing the fact(s) when looking back at the inverted face.
-----------
Below is exactly the same image, "right way up":
Scary!
...
Maid to Order (July 2021) :
Gosh, is THAT the time?
Must be time for a new hair-do:
Dripping Fingers (August 2021) :
For a few technical reasons, this render presented a wee challenge:
The skin-wetness wouldn't "play nice" with the original body, which had already been "posed" and had had its droplets affixed.
Rather than start from scratch, the "pose" you see was Saved and then applied to the new body, to which the droplets were "parented" before deleting the first.
A shame, as the original body had a more detailed and more high-rez skin.
3x Gymnasts' Muscle Development (August 2021) :
Three versions of the same base figure, with muscles developing from left to right. (Clothing was deliberately made more opaque to better see the bodies.)
The garments were deliberately made 33% opaque to better portray the body shapes and textures:
Is it a Bird?
Is it a Plane?
No, It's... (August 2021) :
Secret Agent (August 2021) :
It's probably worth mentioning that "SuperSasha" is the central character from a series of stories written by "Lady-Freedom", who wanted her written prortrayals of her gymnastic, morphing, shape-shifting Agent/Spy to be "fleshed out" pictorially...
In her "Secret Agent" adventure SuperSasha inflitrates a top-secret compound to steal information, adapting her body parts at will (when appropriate) to avoid detection and gain access/egress otherwise unachievable in her "normal" body state.
Portrayed here are instances when she dispensed with most of her body entirely, except for
a) her right hand
and
b) her legs:
Render time: 3hrs 18mins.
Calamity! (August 2021) :
This "project" involved creating two identical 3D renders with different Gravity settings, importing the renders into InDesign for adding the text and border, exporting as PNG, then into PhotoShop for Cropping and Saving as JPG.
The original renders took almost 9 hours apiece.
Full Moon in Japan (Sept 2021) :
While the Scene-creation took a long time (think night-time shadows, various light-emitting objects like the moon, lanterns & shop-front, plus additional spot-lights and distance-lights to reveal what WAS in the shadows), the final render only took 16 minutes!
After the Hurricane (Sept 2021) :
Render engines are fickle wee things. They don't like DARK scenes and they don't like fog and mist... not to mention lots of watery reflections; particularly with ripples!
THIS was only a TEST render, but it exceeded the [User-Specified] 90,000 secs Max-Render-Time and timed-out after 25 hours and 1 minute, have only completed 24.28% Convergance!
Left to complete without limits it would probably have taken well over a week!
Pirate Sloop at Dawn
(Sept 2021) :
In contrast to the previous render, in which some of the same sloop rigging was used, this render took under 2.5hrs to reach 95% convergeance!
I Wanna Go Home (Sept 2021) :
Potential Cat-Fight (Sept 2021) :
Same shoes, same colour hair, both wearing "strappy" outfits! SOMEone's asking for trouble!
Losing a Tail (Sept 2021) :
There's a lot "going on" in this nocturnal street scene. The road is wet and all of the lights are emissive. Half way through the first render there was a power-failure, which meant having to re-render from scratch. The second time through, as the user-specified Max-Time of 100,000 seconds approached, so did a thunderstorm, so the time wasn't extended... As it was it took 27 hours 47 minutes to reach 66.96% ray-traced convergence! But another few days of rendering would probably not have made a big difference to the naked eye... and life is too short!
Apart from the five people, have you spotted the cat? And the mouse?!
Hare and Flowers (Oct 2021) :
A 4hr render created as a back-drop for a Birthday Card for a hare and flower-loving individual.
We just don't give UP, do we?!
:-)
