The original render timed out, 80% complete, after 16hrs 45mins, weighing in at 22Mb. This version is less than 10Mb.

Changing the Lightbulb (Oct 2020) : 

The original 4,000 x 2,667 .PNG render, 95% converged, was 14.7Mb and took 16hrs 10mins of render time. This .JPG is only 5Mb.

Portrait (Oct 2020) : 

If you don't put limits on ray-traced renders, they can sometimes just keep going "forever". In this case the Max Render Time had been set to 60,000 seconds (16.666hrs), but the render didn't actually "time out" until 18hrs 35mins had transpired, at which stage the image was still only 76.81% converged, Iray having completed 327 iterations/passes. It only had to get to 95% (another self-imposed limit), but the final 19% would probably have taken several more hours and it's unlikely that we'd have been able to tell the difference.

The original 2,667 x 4,000 render occupied 18.1Mb of disk space.

This particular image is a morph of an old, balding man and a gorilla (really!), topped with female hair and scarf (all originally in 3D, of course), but it works, somehow!

This is a FAILED 3D render!
Believe it or not, the woman WAS created wearing a pretty lacy skirt and blouse, but the dForce "gravity" simulator went off to live a life of its own and totally removed them! (The guy's hand is on the outside of her skirt!)  That said, the result is still aesthetically pleasing, so the pic isn't destined for the trash-can after all! 

Ended up having to restart the female clothing from scratch (less frilly than the original set), resulting in the following:

Word from Above (Oct 2020) : 

The "brief" was to create a square canopy hanging from four poles, two poles at one end being lower than those at the other. The canopy should bear hand-written text and a spotlight, from above, would shine down, through the canopy, projecting the words onto the ground and anyone walking thereon.

What should have been a quick 'n easy project took quite a while to figure out. Creating the canopy itself was super-easy:
Create a planar surface and, using the gravity and wind-simulating dForce engine, let it fall over a large sphere, then delete the sphere, invert the resultant deformed plane and texture it with white text on a black  mask so that only the words and lines were projected.
Up to that point was a breeze... But actually getting to SEE the projected words was a challenge!
After much frustrating experimentation, resolution of the issue turned out to be a single mouse-button click, as the scene's environmental dome was overriding the projection! 
Once the dome was hidden, Problem solved!

Such is the way of life in a 3D world!

Another Word from Above (Oct 2020) : 

The astute will realise that, in reality, "projected" text whould be white (or at least a COLOUR), as it's pretty hard to project black light. (Conversely, the spot-light could be penetrating all of the NON-text part of the canopy, creating SHADOW-text to give the IMPRESSION of projected black text..)

But changing to white writing would have begged creating a dark-floored environment (maybe a dark marble or wood?) and, well... we have other fish to fry !

Bear in mind that the Executive Wing of New Zealand's Parliament Buildings (depicted above) is commonly refered to as "The Beehive", and NZ has just had an election. 

Toxic Wasted (Oct 2020) :
It was so tempting to add some hypodermic needles, aerosol cans, cigarette butts, soda-bombs and a bottle of Dettol !  But we resisted !

A sad commentary on our modern lives, perhaps?  To worry so about "a little virus" when we're already wallowing in man-made or enhanced poisons.

That said, rain is usually a good cleanser!
